Quicksand: Formed out of the late-1980s New York hardcore scene by former Gorilla Biscuits frontman Walter Schreifels, Quicksand helped pioneer 1990s post-hardcore. By combining heavy, drop-tuned guitar riffs with abrasive punk energy and subtle melody, their landmark albums—Slip (1993) and Manic Compression (1995)—became massive influences on alternative metal acts like Deftones, Helmet, and Incubus. After breaking up in the mid-90s, the group reunited permanently in 2012 and has since released acclaimed records including Interiors (2017) and Distant Populations (2021). Fucked Up: Fucked Up is a critically acclaimed Canadian punk band celebrated for taking traditional hardcore into expansive, ambitious territory. Fronted by the charismatic Damian Abraham, the group weaves multi-layered guitar walls, long instrumental passages, and narrative rock-opera storylines into aggressive punk music. Their breakout LP, The Chemistry of Common Life (2008), won Canada's prestigious Polaris Music Prize, paving the way for ambitious concept albums like David Comes to Life (2011), Dose Your Dreams (2018), and One Day (2023).
