Level up your experience with a delicious Taiwanese banquet right on the waterfront! In Taiwan, this tradition serves local cuisine right on the streets. It is a joyous occasion where people gather for special events. This year, we are bringing the traditional Taiwanese “street banquet” culture with a Toronto twist! Enjoy Taiwanese flavours alongside heartwarming Indigenous music from Taiwan. Reserve a seat to experience the food from the island of Formosa. 2026 TAIWANfest invites audiences into a cultural dialogue through music and language! Inspired by the resilience of the Taiwanese and the Scottish, this year’s Opening Event weaves together memory, heritage, and innovation.  Wander through the beautiful mountains of Taitung with the Nanwang Sisters, as their powerful voices harmonize the songs of the Pinuyumayan people. Singing in their mother tongue, they bring stories from the east coast of Taiwan. Featuring a special surprise guest from Canada’s own East Coast! This program is part of TAIWANfest   **The Opening Event itself is free admission. Guests reserving a spot will have access to the tables and a full-course meal, Taiwanese street banquet style!   Reception Dinner starts at 6:30 PM, Performance starts at 7:30 PM Nanwang Sisters Samingad, Lavaus, and I hua—represent a highly symbolic generation in the development of Taiwan’s Indigenous music. They grew up during a time when society was still rife with prejudice against Indigenous identity, an era when many singers were forced to conceal their Indigenous backgrou
