The Argatoffs play Tristano/Konitz/Marsh, feat. Harry Vetro

Friday, 28 August 2026 at 19:00 GMT-7

Central Okanagan United Church

721 Bernard Ave, Kelowna, British Columbia, V1Y 6P6, CA

Doors open at 6:30pm, concert at 7pm Okanagan jazz staples, the Argatoff brothers, are joined by Toronto-based drummer Harry Vetro for an evening of jazz music. This chordless quartet, featuring alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, acoustic bass, and drums, will be performing the compositions of Lenny Tristano, Lee Konitz, and Warne Marsh, a sub-genre of jazz music characterized by contrapuntal melodies, harmonic departures, and rhythmic creativity.    Lenny Tristano was a jazz pianist and prominent educator active in New York from the 1940's until his death in 1978.  Though a skilled pianist and composer, much of Tristano's impact on the jazz tradition came through his teaching, with two of his most prominent students being saxophonists Lee Konitz and Warne Marsh. Tristano was one of the few people teaching jazz improvisation at the time, and his unusually short 15-20 minute lessons were offered to musicians playing any instrument.   Harrison Argatoff - tenor saxophone Anthony Argatoff - alto saxophone Alex Argatoff - bass Harry Vetro - drums --- Harrison Argatoff is a Canadian tenor saxophonist and composer based in Toronto. A 2018 graduate of The University of Toronto’s jazz program, his music combines the study of jazz, classical, and free-improvised music to cultivate a versatile, controlled, yet distinctly personal sound. Having grown up a Doukhobor, in the interior of British Columbia, teachings of pacifism, communal music making, and respect for life and nature deeply influence his personal and artistic endeavours.
